Msg Subject: Cheap a/c for your cuddy

I know most people in Florida use the cabin for storage, but if you could keep it cool would you use it for overnight trips?

We have a cuddy that has the full camper canvas, but like most people couldn't enjoy it with the summer heat. I looked into "carry on a/c" but couldn't see spending almost $1000.00 for it.We went to home depot and picked up one of the portable roll around floor a/c's for around $300.00.

With the canvas up it fits in a corner of the cockpit area. We put the vent hose thru the side canvas and ran the drain hose into the bilge. It comes with a catch pan for condensation, but being on the water it only took two hours to fill it up and the unit to turn off.

We have used it on the last two trips we took, and it ketp the whole inside area comfortable during the day, and we had to turn it down to medium at night. It may not keep a boat as cool as a house , but we went to Saint Augustine last summer and the people next to us said they wanted one for the cockpit area of their boat so they didnt have limited a/c only in the cabin. I hope someone finds this info useful, good boating,  Stan.
