Two engine setup - I'm leaning towards Yamaha, but the dealer is highly recommending the Honda for this boat as the better performer. They use & support both manufacturers extensively. |

Check out the warranty on them, as well as any incentive programs they may be offering. Another thing to think about is, where will the boat be used, meaning can you get service when you need it. As far as which one is better, well that is a personal choice, just like the kind of car you drive. Both engines are from reputable manufacurers, so it will realy come down to availability of service, warranty, and any incentive plans offered. Sorry this isn't a this on or that one answer, but it's the most honest. |

Oil changes will be your single largest maintenance item regardless of which you choose. In my area the high and dry marina's are packed with boats with Yamaha's but then again Yamaha is factory equipment on several mass produced boats. On the 27 Cat either of these engines should push you along at a top end over 50mph while still giving you decent fuel burn probably around 20gph combined top end or a little over 2mpg depending on load. I just sold a similar boat with 200 Yamaha HPDI's 2 strokes and I would consistantly see about 1.5 to 1.9mpg depending on load. Before selling this boat last month I put over 1500 hours on both engines with zero problems. I did change my own lower unit oil, spark plugs, fuel filters, and water pumps every season. Good Luck. |
