Next time you are at the dock all by yourself, test this manuever, it is for when the dock is full and there are boats real close. When next to the dock turn the helm all the way over into the dock. Then put the engine/engines in gear going forward. This will press the bow into the dock and the stern will come away. Once the stern has past the vessel at your stern then put engine back into neutral straighten the motor and back out.

That is how you do it if the current is pushing you toward dock or there is no current.  If its pushing you away you can just push off.  In fact that is in the florida boating safety course.

I took the course when I was 12, so I don't remember much of it.

I hear that, I took it with my daughter today so she can start to learn how to drive the boat.  Then we went out and she didnt even want to drive, no idea/////
