Msg Subject: New place on the river

We have taken the boat out on the river the last couple weekends.  We found a new place up near the Astor Bridge.  It is directly across from Blackwater Inn.  IT is called Castaways.  They have enough room to park 4 boats out front and more out back and down in front of the rooms.  They actually come right down to your boat to take your order if you choose.  We sat on the patio though.  They have Landshark on tap!!!   We had 2 pitchers of Landshark and Conch Fritters, Gator Tail and Fried Shrimp Last weekend when we went.  Everything was excellent, and the fritters were the best we have had in a long time, and the prices were reasonable.  Yesterday we went back and had a pitcher of Landshark and a ham and chees melt and the wife and daughter had burgers.  Again excellent and our bill was about $20.  Great service and great food and best of all, Landshark on tap.

So I recommend them and we will be going back again.

Mynypitboat,

This sounds like a great place.  We'll have to try it out next time we are up that way.  Thanks for the tip.

We haven't been there since it changed owners.

We used to be at that marina years ago. Was always a pain in the a$$ to get in and out.

Will try it the next time we go south

Yeah, I could see it getting harder to get in and out this summer when the river gets more crowded.

They build some new docks over in front of the rooms, not sure if we can use them for the restaurant, but that might make it easier to get in if the 4 slips in front are full.

We tried it today, and will go again! We did have to dock down passed the fuel dock, I don't see gatting our boat in front of the restaraunt. It was actualy easier to dock down there away from the ramp anyway. The food was good, as was the service . I could see hanging out for a weekend, although we couldn't find the manager to look at a motel room.

OMG!!!!!  We ate there last night!!!!!  Let me start by saying I have been eating at Shady Oaks in De Land FOREVER!!!!  I Love their wings.  Last night we drove to Astor to eat at Castaways.  They had all you can eat wings and these were probably THE BEST wings I have ever had!!!!!!!!

On top of that they have AWESOME Bloody Mary's!!!!!

We looked at a room too, and was glad to see fresh paint and CLEAN.

If anyone gets the chance to stop in and try the food. and you happen along Charlie the manager, tell him what group your in and say Hi.

I doubt you'll get any kind of discount, but he is a nice guy and it never hurts to let a good place know the word is getting around about their food and service.

As far as their docks go...they are all new, in fact the whole marina has been rebuilt. There are boats in there a whole lot bigger than Millissa and Terry's, so those who've seen theirs know what they can accomadate now.

Well... we laid a credit card on the table, and they kept bringing pitchers. Does that count?
