ReplyMsg Posted: 4:21 PM 7/28/2008 ( msg #423 ) Msg Subject: Launching and Loading ??? Anybody have any of these??? I will tell on myself before Stan does. I almost put our boat on someone else's trailer this weekend. When we got back to Halifax from Disappearing Island I dropped Stan off and was waiting for him come and get me. We had a neighbor, Steve, on our boat so he and I were chatting, I looked up and saw what I thought was my truck backed down the ramp and was heading too it, got pretty close and then I realized that the trailer had no guideposts. Looked up and thankfully saw MY truck a few vehicles back in line still waiting. I don't know that anyone, other than my neighbor, realized what almost happened. But it was VERY close!!!!

Although not as mortified as the time that I put our 23 foot center console on the trailer completely sideways at the crowded New Smyrna ramp!!!!!

It seemed like everyone that we saw load a boat on Sunday, were either drunk, or just not very good at it!!!! One boat had to ask someone walking by to hold a rope to keep his boat straight on the trailer......keep in mind his wife had driven the boat on the trailer, so it wasn't like he was by himself and needed help. The driver tied a rope to the boat handed it to the guy on the dock and then pulled up some so the boat would load straight. Next story, this was a group of guys that had been out fishing(thing they were DRUNK). One guy goes and gets the truck, two guys stay on the center console and drive it on the trailer. It is crooked enough that the guy not driving is holding on leaning to one side---do you think anyone realized this and tried to straighten it?? NOOOOOOOOOO, they pull out of the ramp, unload all of their stuff and THEN think hmmmmm, something is not right. So then they go back around to the ramp and attempt to straighten the boat. |
