 Here is the problem, my 5.7 liter Mercruiser is eating alternater drive belts.

 I put a new water pump on the boat in may and ever since then I am haveing a hard time keeping the belt on. The allinement looks correct, and I have removed the pulley to check for nicks. While the pulley was off I noticed a large amount of rust so I removed it with a wire wheel. The only thing that helped was the noise of belt squeel.

 Does anyone have a suggestion for me to try next, or another way to check for allinement. Any help would be great.

Is it slinging the belt or is it chewing it up and breaking it? It might not be the alignment it might be that one of the accessories it's turning could have bad bearings and is hard to turn causing premeture wear on the belt.

   It is not throwing the belt. It is just chewing it up. I checked the bearings in the alt. which is the only acess. it is driving. At this point the only thing I can think of is that is out of alignment. It just looks like everything is right.

    Thank you for the help, I will have to find another way to check the alignment on it.
