Msg Subject: Channel markers - whatever are they for?????

Randy gave me control of his boat last weekend when we were in the Keys.  Apparently he thought I knew what I was doing.  I managed to get everyone out to the sandbar without an issue.  After spending the day on the sandbar and sitting through one rain storm, it was time to head back before the second storm hit.  I entered the channel that lead us back to the hotel when what I thought was the channel turned out to be only 6" of water.  By the time I realized I was not in the channel  the boat came to an abrupt halt, completely stuck in the sand.  It took all 8 of us to push the boat back into the channel, not before I, along with one other passenger (Bill, The Cable Guy) fell into the deep water of the channel.   Once the laughter had subsided we resumed our journey back to the hotel "within" the channel markers this time!   So now I know what Jimmy Buffet meant when he said "keep your boat with the navigational beacons" in the song It's Five O'clock Somewhere.
