Lake Norman, or LKN as it is known to locals, is an absolutely beautiful lake that has HUGE water views. This man made lake was created in the 70's by Duke energy and originally was the Catawba River. It was dammed up and flooded to create one of the largest inland lakes in the country. It is larger than the "Sea of Galilee" and has many homes dotting the shoreline.
There are several great restaurants that can be reached by boat:
- Vinnie's - lots of drinking going on here
- Northshore Harbor - dressy and nice for a special event
- Midtown Sundries - very casual - but must wear a shirt
- and a few others I haven't tried yet.
Lots of people like to go wake boarding in the main channel, but there are some awesome coves for floating and relaxing with your family. Tie-ups are popular and tubing is always fun too!
www.lknfun.com is a great site for seeing what is happening in the lake area.
There are quite a few marina's to rent boats and wave runners for the day, and also to store your boat. There are boat ramps to pop your boat in also.
