This year we found a neat little place to stay on Conch Key called the Bayview Inn. (just before Marathon) The couple that own it are great, it's a cute little mom and pop place. They offer free boat dockage if you stay 3 or more nights. They have their own boat ramp and they have a little general store. They also have a small swimming pool, grills and a tiki hut. (the tiki hut is there for you to bring your own fun, food and drinks.) There is a manatee that hangs out around the dock and the kids were rubbing his belly and feeding him fresh water from the hose.
We did a lot of fishing on the Marathon Humps:
Marathon Hump (West Hump)
GPS: 24-25.528' N; 80-45.328' W
Loran: 14032.3; 43358.5
Depth: 516 ft.
and the catch of the day seemed to be Black Fin Tuna. If you were lucky you might land a Dolphin, but that just didn't happen for us.
We took a day trip down to Key West and did the Duval Crawl while the kids rented scooters and tore up the streets. My two favorite places are the Raw Bar over by the charter boats and Irish Kevin's at night.
Robbie's was another place we visited, it's on Islamorada. If you want to see Tarpon up close and personal, this is the place to be. It's cheap to get in, you buy a bucket of fish for $2.50 and you feed the tarpon. My advice...Don't dangle your hand too close to the water, if you do, you better be quick at pulling back! Those suckers launch themselves out of the water to get your fish! (Yes, I came home with a few scratches)
As far as snorkeling goes there are a few places around Conch Key but due to the weather situation, the visibility in the water was poor. We were going to go to Looe Key one day to snorkel but again the seas were too bad to get out there. But if you ever get a chance, Looe Key is an excellent place to snorkel. There is so much marine life to see, so you better take an underwater camera.
We are in the process of planning our next trip to the Keys. (I can't wait!) We got back in town just in time for the 4th of July and spent that with our friends on East Lake and enjoyed the fireworks.

Hi Kim, great writing! I was goggle-earthing to find out where the Glen was and I have put it on my future places to visit. If I am right in my calculations, we could make it there in about 3 hours....I hope to meet up with you guys someday. Laurie
Kim, what a great article! I love "The Glen" and love taking trips with you and friends. Thank you for introducing me to the glen and to SAND BOILS. Some people pay hundreds of dollars for a "Whole Body Exfoliate".

Kim,
You and Randy introduced me to the Glen and I've been hooked ever since. For those who are uninitiated, a day at the Glen is the ultimate in fun and relaxation. I've been several times and have never had a bad experience (even when my jetski went kaput!).
This is an excellent article and I hope that we can arrange another huge get together before the end of the season.
Happy Boating to All!

Awesome time in The Glen! Lots of fun boating, partying, and meeting new fellow boat-a-holics!
Great writing, Kim! Will there be another weekend trip to Silver Glen this summer?
Kim, you did a great job on describing the Glen.. It is a great place.
My piece of heaven. Thanks to a great friend of mine who introduce me
to the Silver Glen about 18 yrs ago. I will have to post the old pictures one day.
Thank you for writing the article. Darius
Great article Kim! I can't wait to go back to Silver Glenn Springs!
